I love oats in general and especially steelcut oats as it keeps me fuller for longer with its wonderfully low GI. I noticed that the rawtarian has a wonderful recipe for raw steelcut oats porridge on her blog, so I tried it. I loved it and decided to play a bit with the concept and dessertify it a little;) You know me and my sweet tooth…
Of course it is all healthy though – full of fibre, healthy fats, hormone balancing maca and my favourite superfood in the whole wide world – raw cacao!
Ingredients (serves 1)
- 1/3 cup steelcut oats (I prefer not to soak them)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 teaspoons raw cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
- 1 teaspoon maca powder
- 2 teaspoons sweetener of choice (I used erythritol/stevia mixture)
- 2-3 teaspoons peanut butter
- small pinch of salt
- 2 medjool dates , pitted
Instructions
Add water and then oats to your blender and start blending. After a minute or two, add all other ingredients and continue blending until smooth. Taste and adjust to your preference.
If you want to soak the oats, simply put the 1/3 cup oats and 1/2 cup water into the blender the night before. The next morning, switch on your blender and gather the other ingredients. Add the other ingredients and blend until smooth. This yields a smoother porridge with less texture. Personally, I prefer the thicker, richer texture you get when you do not pre-soak the oats. Try both and do according to your preference.
This portion may look small but believe me – it is RICH and filling. It kept me perfectly satisfied from 9am-2pm! And that says a lot as I usually eat every 3 hours:)
